รูปลักษณ์ภายนอกของ EOS 550D นั้น แทบจะเหมือนกับ 450D และ 500D เลยทีเดียวครับ Canon ไปลงรายละเอียดตรงปุ่มและเลย์เอาท์ใหม่ๆมากกว่า สำหรับบอดี้ของกล้องตามข้อมูลของ dpreview นั้นใช้วัส ดุแบบเดียวกับ 500D คือตัวโครงทำจากสเตนเลสสตีล กล้องกระจกทำจากพลาสติกชนิดพิเศษ และบอดี้นั้นทำจาก โพลีคาร์บอเนตผสมใยแก้วน้ำหนักเบาและกันสนามแม่เหล็กได้ระดับหนึ่ง โดยรวมแล้วโครงสร้างแน่นหนาดี

สำหรับความรู้สึกในการจับถือ EOS550D นั้น ก็เหมือนๆกับ EOS500D และคนมือใหญ่หน่อยก็คงรู้สึกไม่ถึงกับถนัดมากนัก ถึงแม้จะมีการแก้ไขเพิ่มแผ่นยางรองรับนิ้วโป้งมาตั้งแต่ EOS450 แล้วก็ตาม ถ้าดูจากรูปคนที่นิ้วกลางใหญ่และยาวน่าจะรำคาญกับช่องระหว่างก ริ ปกับเลนส์ที่แคบ ( 450D เวลาผมไปออกงานต้องตัดเล็บให้สั้นทุกครั้ง) แต่ก็มีออปชั่นเพิ่มเติมตามสมัยนิยมคือ Battery Grip เช่นกันแต่ความรู้สึกผมคือถ้าเราไม่ต้องใช้ขนาดของกล้องอวดลูกค้า ของเรา ก็ไม่ต้องซื้อกริปหรอกครับ อย่าลืมว่ากล้องยิ่งเล็ก ยิ่ง Practical ในการพกในชีวิตจริง

EOS 550 D มุมมองด้านหลัง

จอด้านหลังเส้นทแยงมุม 3 นิ้ว แต่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงขนาด มาเป็นความกว้างแบบ 3:2 ซึ่งดูกว้างขึ้นและประกบด้วยกระจกลดแสงสะท้อนกับความละเอียดจอ ระดับ 1,040,000 Px (เพิ่มขึ้นจากเดิม)

มุมมองด้านบนของ 550D ไม่ค่อยเปลี่ยนอะไรมาก แต่เปลี่ยนปุ่มหมุนจากสีเงินใน 500D กลับไปเป็นสีดำ เน้นปุ่ม ISO ชัดเจนขึ้นและร่องวางนิ้วสำหรับก ดชัตเตอร์เปลี่ยนเชพเล็กน้อย มีการเปลี่ยนให้โหมด “ไร้แฟลช”มาอยู่ใกล้โหมดสีเขียวมากขึ้นเพราะมือ ใหม่จะใช้บ่อยเวลา เข้าสถานที่ห้ามใช้แฟลชต่างๆ

เปรียบเทียบ 550D กับ 500D

500D ทางซ้ายและ 550D ทางขวา ขนาดแทบจะเท่ากันเป๊ะ

ขนาดของ 500D กับ 550D นั้นแทบไม่ต่างกันเลยโดยสังเก ตได้ว่า 550D นั้นออกอาการ”อ้วน”และยาวกว่าเล็กน้อย ด้านหน้ามีตำแหน่งบอกชื่อรุ่นที่เปลี่ ยนไป

ปุ่มด้านหลังมีการปรับเปลี่ยนให้กดง่ายขึ้นและจอมีความยาว มากขึ้น ถ้าเทียบกับ 500D โดย 550D มี ขนาดจอ 3นิ้ว ในอัตราส่วน 3:2 นั้นเอง ( 500D มีขนาดจอ 4:3 )

550D กับคุณภาพของระบบภาพนิ่ง

ชิป DIGIC 4 ของ Canon EOS 550D นั้นมีการ พัฒนามาเป็นพิเศษสำหรับทำงานกับเซ็นเซอร์ 18.1 MP โดยเพิ่มความสามารถในการลด Noise ที่สภาพแสงน้อย และมีการพัฒนาในส่วนของการไล่เฉดสีให้ราบเรียบและเป็นธรรมชาติมาก ขึ้น (แต่ยังไงผมก็ปรับสีเข้ม Vivid อยู่ดี ฮาา ) และในส่วนของระบบโฟกัสมีการพัฒนาจุดโฟกัสแบบ 9 จุด และมีจุดหนึ่งที่วัดได้ละเอียดแบบ Extra Sensitive สำหรับเลนส์ F2.8 และเลนส์ที่กว้างกว่า พร้อมทั้งการถ่ายต่อเนื่องที่ 3.7 ภาพต่อวินาที

การถ่ายรุปในวันฟ้าอึมครึมของ DPreview ทำให้สังเกตถึงวิธีการไล่สีของกล้อง 550D ได้ดี โดยปกติกล้อง DSLR รุ่นเล็กจะไล่เฉดสีดำมาก และขาวมากได้ไม่ดีครับ อย่างเช่นเลข 5 สีขาวในภาพไม่แน่ใจว่าเปื้อนจริงหรือเปล่า และก้อนเมฆในวันฟ้าครึ้มมีราย ละเอียดตามรูปหรือเปล่า แต่อย่างไรก็ตามงานถ่ายรูปแบบไล่เฉดสีตามมาตร ฐานเป็นงานที่ต้อง ไปทำด้านสิ่งพิมพ์ต่อซะส่วนใหญ่ ส่วนผู้บริโภคทั่วไปไม่ค่อยสนใจ เท่าไหร่ครับเพราะเน้น ภาพสวย มากกว่าภาพ สมจริงกันซะมากกว่า

นอกจากนั้นยังมีการนำเทคโนโลยีของ EOS 7D มาใส่อีกด้วยเช่น ระบบวัดแสง 63 Zone iFCL และเป็นครั้งแรกของกล้องระดับนี้ที่ สามารถปรับเพิ่มลด แสงได้ถึง + – 5 stop จากเดิม +- 2 stop และสามารถถ่ายคร่อมได้ที่ +-2 stop ตามปกติอีกด้วย

Kieran Magee – ผู้อำนวยการ Product Planning, Consumer Products, Canon Europe ได้กล่าวว่า 550D คือ กล้องที่จัดมาตรฐานใหม่ของกล้อง DSLR รุ่นเล็ก โดยการนำ Technology ที่อยู่ในรุ่นมืออาชีพมาใช้และทำให้ผู้บริโภคสามารถสร้างสรรค์ ผล งานจากความคิดตัวเองได้โดยไม่ติดกับลิมิตของกล้อง

550D กับโหมดวีดีโอ HD

550D ได้ พัฒนาเรื่องการถ่ายวีดีโอ HD ไปอีกขั้นโดยสามารถถ่ายที่ full 1920×1080p HD video resolution โดยสามารถเลือก frame rates of 24fps, 25fps และ 30fps ได้จึงเหมาะกับทั้ง PAL และ NTSC ( 500D เดิมติดปัญหาเรื่อง framerate ไม่ได้มาตรฐานทำให้ภาพกระตุกเวลา Process ) , และในโหมด 720p สามารถถ่ายวีดีโอ High speed ที่ 60 และ 50fps ได้ ซึ่งสามารถใช้ถ่าย MV และนำกลับมาฉายปกติจะได้ภาพ Slow เท่ห์ๆนั่นเองครับ ,EOS 550D ยังติดตั้งรู สำหรับ stereo microphone 3.5mm เพื้อเปิดโอกาสให้ ผู้ใช้ได้ใช้ external microphone เพื่อคุณภาพเสียงที่ดีขึ้นใน ขณะบันทึกภาพ

จุดที่สำคัญในการถ่ายวีดีโอก็คือ ผู้ใช้สามารถปรับควบคุม exposure settings ได้แบบ manual สามารถปรับเปลี่ยนระยะชัดลึก depth-of-field และ degree ของ motion blur ได้ตามใจชอบขณะถ่ายทำ ! เพื่อที่จะทำให้วีดีโอมีคุณภาพ สูงสุด , Highlight Tone Priority (HTP) หรือขั้นมาตรฐานบริเวณสว่างมากสามารถเซ็ทแยกต่างหากเพื่อการถ่าย ภาพยนต์ โดยไม่ต้องเปลี่ยน setting ของภาพนิ่ง นอกจากนี้ 550D ยังมีระบบ ‘Movie Crop’ function ที่จะครอปบันทึกภาพจากบริเวณกลาง 640×480 pixel สร้างกำลังซูมระยะไกลถึง 7 เท่า ซึ่งเป็นฟังก์ชั่นช่วยถ่ายวัตถุระยะ ไกลครั้งแรกของกล้อง DSLR ( แต่ Compact ทำมานานแล้วนะ Digital Zoom )

การใช้ EOS 550D ในแบบ Wireless

EOS 550D นั้น สามารถใช้งานในโหมด Wireless ได้ด้วยอุปกรณ์ Eye-Fi card ครับ โดยจะสามารถถ่ายทอดข้อมูลต่างๆผ่าน Wireless ได้ แต่ต้องศึกษาสเป็คสำหรับแต่ละประเทศ
